Alcatel announced on Tuesday Mike Quigley will move into the President and COO slot of the company after the resignation of Philippe Germond.

Quigley has spent the last six years running the U.S. division of the French firm Alcatel. He brings an intense understanding of the nature of technology as he spent his first ten years with Alcatel in R&D in Australia.

Quigley has been all over the company. After R&D, he moved to manufacturing and quality and then in to marketing and sales. He later moved into senior management as the General Manager of the Australian and New Zealand activities in 1996. In 1999 he took over operations in the U.S.

Now he's offer to Paris where he'll report Serge Tchuruk.

"Mike has gained wide recognition in the world of telecoms and has acquired a broad knowledge of our company. I will give him all the support he may need in his new position", said Serge Tchuruk.

Germond quit in April after it was announced his stint as COO would be extend past the original term ending in 2006.

Alcatel is a French based telecommunications equipment firm that provides equipment for carriers, ISPs and enterprise for delivery of voice, data and video applications.
