As major search engines work to include local searches and news, Topix.com, a site devoted to local news from around the country, has nearly doubled the amount of local news sources it crawls, from 3600 to 6000.

As reported in ResearchBuzz.com, about 25% of the sources Topix crawls are daily newspapers, while blogs make up only 1%. You can search Topix by using your zip code or by entering your city and state.
Topix also features various news categories like business, world, sci/tech, and more. These topics then feature larger, more specific subcategories of their own. RSS feeds are also available from Topix.
