The European Commission is spearheading an effort to improve the overall quality of Internet searching. The hope is that search engines will approach the overall depth of information with a more "human" approach.

The project seeks to create search engines that, according to an article from the BBC, "can emulate the human ability to assess the context of information presented and sort out irrelevancies before delivering the results".
Stewart Davies, CEO of BT Exact, a company providing research facilities to the project said, "having to wade through reams of irrelevant and disordered information to find what you're looking for is frustrating. It undermines the Internet's promise of immediacy and its potential as a tool for knowledge."
EU is currently funding this and other projects aimed at improving search engine technology.
